Dark Deluxe
There is something about GiGi Deluxe. If you are ever in the same room with her, I guarantee that it won't be a dull experience. I first met GiGi in person at a Fluxcore art show back in 2006. I was instantly fascinated by her and her world. You will be too.

Ron Sager (Fluxcore): Why do you do what you do?
GiGi Deluxe: I do what I do because I have to. It's a compulsion. I can't image my life without art or being anything other than an artist first and foremost..
Ron: What inspires you?
GiGi: Everything inspires me as an artist. Music, religion, Satanism, voodoo, books that I read, situations I find myself in, emotions, objects like dolls, shoes, hats, even food, I love painting sweeties and cupcakes. I'm inspired by what speaks to me and calls out to be recognized.

Ron: What is the next big thing?
GiGi: I have no idea. I live in a self made bubble: my work, my children, my loved ones, friends, my music and books. And mostly everyone ventures into the bubble opposed to me venturing out! ha ha ha
Ron: What do you consider good art?
GiGi: My work!
Seriously though, work that is made with passion, creativity, skill, and a special something pulled from the Aether..
Ron: What do you consider your best work to date?
GiGi: My latest painting with the siamese twins. I feel that I'm moving towards an aesthetic that combines what inspires me and what I truly enjoy doing. My painting is evolving , so as it evolves it's becoming more emotionally gratifying.
Ron: What is your most prized possession?
GiGi: Do people count? Because there are three people in my life I couldn't live without..as far as objects go, my music collection. I can't live without my music..
Ron: Who is the one person you've always wanted to meet? (Dead or Alive?)
GiGi: I would like to hang out with Anton LaVey. He would be terribly interesting, a great conversationalist, and I'm certain he would make me laugh for hours on end. I would ask him to play the calliope and I, of course, would make him an amazing dinner in return for the musical entertainment .
Ron: Tell us about your next show.
GiGi: I'm so stoked about this show! It's at Gallery Provocateur, on Halloween with Clive Barker. I'm showing a new painting that I'm extremely proud of and I'm wearing this gorgeous latex gown from Vex Clothing (Yes!). Plus, Halloween is like X-mas for me, so this is just too perfect!
For those unfamiliar with Clive Barker's work, he's a painter, but he's famous for his novels and films (the Hellraiser series, Candyman series and the film Gods & Monsters).
He'll be showing his paintings alongside other stellar artists, like myself (wink*) and Zmiya Mochoruk, Chad Savage, Christopher Shy, Rich Cronborg, Richard Haugh, Patrice "Pit" Hubert, Ken Keirns, Charles Moesch, and Chris Guarino.

I'm also so pleased to be showing at this gallery and working with Veronika Kotlajic, she owns and runs Gallery Provocateur and is an amazing lady.
The artist's reception is this Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 8:00pm to Midnight-so I better see you there Ron and the whole Fluxcore clan!
Ron: Awesome! I'll definitely be there. OK, if you wrote a book about your life story, what would you name it?
GiGi: "I Swear I'm not Making This Up", Written and Illustrated by Gigi DeLuxe
Ron: And why would you name it that?
GiGi: Because it's such a bizarre story that people may think that I was embellishing or just straight up lying..ha ha ha
Ron: What kind of world do you want to leave behind for your children?
GiGi: I can't account for what kind of world I want to leave behind, because unless we move to that private island I have my eye on, we have to contend with the rest of society, and with those that make the world a shitty place at times. What I can do is be the best inspiration and example for my children, and arm them with the tools they need to be strong free-willed individuals, who create their own inner sanctum and happiness.
